Weather conditions this afternoon and evening could lead to severe thunderstorms with strong wind gusts, large hail—nickel to ping pong-sized—and heavy rainfall in Montreal.
Welcome to Montreal's extreme summer forecast.
Montrealers are being warned that heavy rain can cause flash and heavy flooding and significant reductions to visibility.
And just when you thought it couldn’t get any fiestier, there is also a risk of a tornado.

According to a severe thunderstorm watch issued by Environment Canada, nautical activities could be hazardous due to sudden, violent wind gusts on bodies of water, so despite the warm weather, it’s best to stay away from some of the best beaches in and around Montreal—along with the city’s many outdoor pools.
Environment Canada also warns that when thunder roars, go indoors: lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.
It’s also important to remember that strong wind gusts can damage trees, buildings and overturn vehicles.
In addition, large hail can cause significant damage and injury.
Where is the safest place to be during a tornado?
If a tornado warning is issued, make sure everyone in your household—including pets—knows where to go: a basement, storm cellar, or an interior room on the lowest level of your home, away from windows.
Was there a tornado in Montreal in 2025?
The first recorded Québec tornado of 2025 occurred in Saint-Zénon on April 29, 2025.
