Fans of Harry Styles will rejoice at the news: according to Deadline, the artist is set to return to the big screen to star opposite Florence Pugh and Chris Pine in Olivia Wilde's thriller Don't Worry, Darling—which we still don't really know anything about, except for the fact that it will be set in a 1950s utopian community in a desert in California.
Deadline also reports that the part taken on by Styles was originally intended for Shia LaBeouf, who had to drop out given scheduling conflicts.
Styles' first cinematic role came in the form of a small part in Christopher Nolan's 2017 Dunkirk, which focused on World War II. This is also Wilde's sophomore directorial effort: the actress showed off her behind-the-camera chops in the critically acclaimed Booksmart. Wilde is also gearing up to direct a new Marvel project in addition to Perfect, a gymnastics feature based on American gymnast Kerri Strug's memoir, Landing on My Feet, a Diary of Dreams.
Don't Worry, Darling is scheduled to start shooting some time this year but, given current guidelines and recent COVID-19 related production halts, a real timeframe is still up in the air.
Film-related news has been dominating headlines in recent weeks: the trailer for the much-anticipated Dune dropped last week in conjunction with the latest Bond preview, Sacha Baron Cohen has reportedly secretly filmed a Borat sequel during a pandemic, Mulan was released on Disney+ and, of course, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences decided to update its guidelines in an effort to boost diverse productions. Fall is, indeed, looking bright.
