This year marks the Brooklyn Historical Society’s 150th anniversary—and what better time to get a little nip and tuck? The Brooklyn Heights institution unveiled its renovated interior on October 16, and improvements to the 1881 edifice—in progress since spring 2012—include new first-floor and lower-level galleries, a classroom and a 200-seat event space. For an in-depth look at the freshly minted features, join the Archtober Building of the Day tour (Tue 22 noon–1pm; $10. Reservations required, visit archtober.org), where you’ll learn about the Queen Anne–style structure from architects Robert Motzkin (Jan Hird Pokorny Associates) and Taryn Christoff (Christoff:Finio) whose firms were involved in the restoration. Fancy yourself rather knowledgeable already? Prove your erudition that night at Pushing Up Daisies: Trivia from the Dark Side (Tue 22 7–10pm; $15, members $10, includes one drink. Reservations required, visit darksidetrivia-eorg.eventbrite.com), a quiz jointly arranged by BHS and fellow borough landmark Green-Wood Cemetery. Be prepared for graveyard-themed clues from hosts Stuart Post and Chris Kelley. (Here’s a teaser: How old is Green-Wood Cemetery this year?) If you’d rather relax your brain cells than flex them, soak up the ambience of the refurbished Great Hall and outdoor patio at a pop-up Autumn Beer Garden (Oct 24 6–8pm; free), where you can kick back with $5 Brooklyn Brewery suds and check out highlights from BHS’s collection, such as old Brooklyn Dodgers gear.
