RECOMMENDED: 50 best New York attractions

Every city park offers its own brand of verdant escapism, but this lush expanse goes beyond landscaped flora. In addition to housing swaths of vegetation—including the 50-acre forest, featuring some of the oldest trees in the city—the garden cultivates a rotating roster of shows that nod to the world’s most cherished green spaces, such as the regal grounds of Spain’s Alhambra palace and Monet’s alfresco sanctuary at Giverny. During the year, visitors head to the garden’s Holiday Train Show, which features miniature NYC landmarks crafted from plant materials, and the Orchid Show, which offers a stunning display of blooms and exotic plants.

I've been visiting the NY Botanical Garden for more than 40 years and learn something new with each visit to the beautiful grounds.

The Botanical Gardens is an oasis that I regularly retreat to on a weekly basis. Just yesterday I invited my sister and seven year old niece to see the Kiku Chrysanthemum exhibit. Did they enjoy it? So much so that my sister is buying the garden's family membership. One visit is all it takes.

Beauty in the heart of The Bronx. You can never imagine there is a world of concrete outside when your inside its magic realm. If I went 365 days in the year I would still never want to leave at closing time.

The botanical garden is huge! The entrance fee is $25 though. You could spend all day there. You can take the metro north or the subway. I went this weekend for the pumpkin exhibit and had a blast! There were pumpkins that were over a 1,00 pounds. Great photo opportunities! The Japanese garden exhibit was gorgeous!

This place is seriously gorgeous, massive and was basically built for escaping the city.

Do as my date did and go shopping for food on Arthur Avenue before picnicking here. You really couldn't ask for a better weekend afternoon. I'd recommend spring or fall, just because during the summer it's hot and you have tons of kids all over.

Absolutely love the Botanical Gardens in the Bronx! The gardens are sprawling, and stunning and there was so much to do fin general. We went in the fall for the Frida Kahlo exhibit, and were blown away by all the activities, (parades, face painting, crafts for kids, pumpkin patch, exhibit). -It exceeded our expectations. The gardens in general are amazing as well. It is a MUST see! Cannot wait to go back.

The Botanical Gardens in the Bronx is by far a world wide attraction and once you go, you will see why.  It's sprawling and very beautiful.  Not to mention, if you check the calendar of events, you can catch terrific shows.
