Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance

Though this dense thriller about kidnappings, organ transplants and the ol’ eye-for-an-eye motto flopped in Korea, this was the movie that put Park on the proverbial map everywhere else. It may be a triumph of style over substance, as some critics have argued, but the director’s graceful handling of the material proves he might be the most exciting genre filmmaker working today.
