The long-darkened 1930s Waverly was once again illuminated in 2005 when it was reborn as a modern three-screen art house, showing the latest indie hits, choice midnight cult items and occasional foreign classics. Actors and directors often introduce their work here on opening night, and the high-toned café provides sweets, lattes and substantials.

  • This is not an action movie, but a cerebral comedy - which is to say, an ideas movie. Some of those ideas are startling, provocative, transgressive, even subversive. They're also pretty funny. It goes like this: Norton used to be an upwardly mobil...

Let’s hope we never learn what a post-apocalyptic world is like, but here’s an educated guess (one that most filmmakers never seem to make): We’re not going to be all that chatty. Set during a brooding future when language seems to have betrayed u...

Amid all the mirrored surfaces and hazy ambiguities of Olivier Assayas’s bewitching, brazenly unconventional ghost story, this much can be said with certainty: Kristen Stewart has become one hell of an actor. The former Twilight star was easily th...

Why did virtually all of the big banks escape prosecution after the housing bubble burst in 2008? No matter how many times we ask, it’s still a rage-making question. Actually, one company was targeted: a family-run Chinese-American firm, Abacus Fe...

Would definitely recommend seeing a film or event here!  Aside from the theater itself, the best part is the poster gallery up in the theater. There are always a lot of great pieces of art on display (currently, it's Eastern European movie posters of classic films like The Birds and Back to the Future).  If you love movies, this is the place to go on a Saturday afternoon - there are always unique films screening, great Q&A events, and fun midnight showings of classics.

One of the best independent cinemas in the country.  Great place to catch a Q&A with the director of a given documentary or film on opening weekend.  Clean and attended with friendly service.
