Zonked-out, atmospheric outfit Blank Dogs—mostly the work of a single dude: Mike Sniper, who also runs the Captured Tracks label—is a bit like Wavves but with more of an eerie, psychedelic feel. Here the band plays in support of its latest, Land and Fixed. Luis Vasquez, the secretive Californian behind the Soft Moon, inhabits old-fashioned goth, much like his singer-songwriter peers cling to folk. A self-titled debut LP (on Captured Tracks) is thoroughly mannered and even creepy, with spare synths and bass presented as murky echoes of Joy Division.
