Dan Weiss is known both city- and worldwide as a crisp, fleet drumming powerhouse whose influences range from metal to North Indian classical music. But lately, he's been garnering just as much attention for his composition and arrangement, documented on last year's wonderfully eclectic Fourteen, which found Weiss expanding his working trio into a midsize big band. Here, he scales back down to the trio format, appearing with constant collaborator Jacob Sacks on piano and Michael Formanek on bass.
