John Cage Variety Show + Respect Sextet

Respected New York new-music label Mode Records takes control of the Stone for the last two weeks of September, offering a characteristic mix of contemporary-classical virtuosos and bold improv mavens. Up first tonight is the Respect Sextet, a jazz combo whose range encompasses Stockhausen and Sun Ra; afterward, multi-instrumentalist Miguel Frasconi leads a gaggle of locals in a John Cage–inspired Musicircus, mashing up any number of seminal scores.
