Kevin Morby was one of our favorite Brooklyn musicians for a while—right up to the point where he moved to Los Angeles in 2013 (we'll forgive him just this once). Before that, the Kansas City native performed regularly with two of the borough's most dependable indie-rock outfits, as a bassist for Woods and cofrontperson for the Babies (the latter is on hiatus). His output since moving out West carries on that work, releasing 2013's Harlem River and 2014's Still Life, a pair of soulful, melancholic records that highlight Morby's sharp songwriting and woolly voice.
RECOMMENDED: See more artists play Time Out Live
Kevin Morby visits NYC tonight for a Bowery Ballroom show with Amen Dunes, previewed in this week's issue, and previous Time Out Live guests Nude Beach. Yesterday, Morby and guitarist Meg Duffy stopped by the Time Out New York offices to play one song from each of his records: "The Dead They Don’t Come Back" and "Parade."
