The Mekons + Chris Mills

Most great bands come and go, but the Mekons are forever. Or so it seems. Comparable only to that other great Leeds postpunk phenomenon, the Fall—if possessed of more amiable social graces—the group abides in its own uncanny continuum. Okay, so maybe it’s more of a rock & roll limbo in which the mutable ensemble, fronted by industrious Welshman Jon Langford and sanguine chanteuse Sally Timms, materializes every few years like some mythic beast, reunited around the fabled shreds and tatters of a history at once shared and uncommon. The band’s 26th album, Ancient & Modern, implies as much, and heralds a pair of local dates that feature the whole gang performing in electric and acoustic settings.
