A Minister's Wife

George Bernard Shaw’s social comedy Candida (1898) is adapted into a well-appointed but stuffy chamber musical that slows the tempo of its discourse and sentimentalizes its stakes. But although the score gets mired in lugubriousness, Michael Halberstam’s production at least has a sublime leading lady in Kate Fry: attractively maternal and formidable in both her fondness and reproach.—Adam Feldman
