What the Public Wants

Arnold Bennett’s 1909 study of media amorality, revived by the Mint, shows that while newsprint may be dying, public crassness is immortal. Matthew Arbour’s cozy production, like the play itself, is a well-built piece of furniture, even if the ensemble doesn’t seem fully at ease in Bennett’s mix of romantic comedy and quasi-Shavian social critique.—David Cote
