The best city-centre hotels in Paris to book in 2026

From Eiffel Tower views to stays in the Marais, these hotels are right in the centre of the action

As Audrey Hepburn apparently said, Paris is always a good idea’. And she’s right, it is. But after you’ve tramped the Tuileries Gardens, mooned over the Mona Lisa and clambered to the top of Sacré Coeur, you definitely need a decent (or indecent) bed. That’s where we come in – swish boutique retreats, cosy heritage hideaways, playful designer fantasies and all the rest of it.

What do we mean by the ‘city centre’?

We know, we know. Paris’s 20 arrondissements and 80 administrative quartiers can be a little confusing. And unlike London or New York, Paris doesn’t have a solid, defined ‘centre’ – it’s more of a sprawling, spiralling city with multiple main key areas. But what most people think of as Paris’s ‘centre’ is it’s main sightseeing loop, which is what you’ll find on this list – stretching from the Eiffel Tower through to the Marais. To be in the centre of Paris means to revel in staying in the heart of the action.

Best for: fans of French design

For fans of fashion and design, this boutique retreat is a testament to Christian Lacroix, a baroque prince of fashion. Set in a quaint former bakery in the city’s creative quarter, this feel-good Marais hotspot is more playful than pretentious.

Surprisingly cosy for a design hotel, it feels like an insider secret and appeals to sophisticated city-savvy couples, with a younger vibe than many rivals. Given the hotel’s heritage as a boulangerie, the croissants are flakier than the wacky designer himself.

Time Out tip: Slip into the retro honesty bar for a glass of bubbles before hitting the town for a meaty dinner at Terra, a sultry winter-garden with a dazzling wine-list.

Address: Hotel du Petit Moulin, 29/31, rue de Poitou, 75003 Paris (Right Bank)

Price: Classic rooms for two from €350 per night, Superior rooms from €400

Best for: splashing on five-star luxury

Dubbed a modern-day Versailles, Le Meurice is Paris’ most sumptuous ‘palace hotel,’ a cut above a mere five-star. The crystal chandeliers and regal portraits are fit for Louis XV1, who lost his head on the neighbouring square. Beyond the Ancien Régime grandeur is a serene spa retreat overlooking the Tuileries Gardens.

Feast on period Parisian charm and Michelin-starred cuisine in the city’s grandest dining-room. Mingle with high-society over a whimsical high-tea, complete with Champagne, lobster rolls and fairytale desserts.

Time Out tip: A personal Picasso art tour of Montmartre comes with the room rate, in honour of the artist whose first wedding reception was celebrated in the hotel.

Address: 228 rue de Rivoli, 75001, Paris (Right Bank)

Price: Superior rooms for two from €2,215 per night; chic tea-time from €95

Best for: a romantic retreat in the Marais

Set on a show-stopping square, Le Pavillon de la Reine feels like a timeless Marais mansion, with its secluded gardens and ravishing period interiors. It’s a Parisian hideaway for celebrities under-the-radar or for romantics drawn to old-school charm.

This discreet boutique spa retreat offers better value than palace hotels but the top suites feel like private apartments. Beyond the gardens await the Place des Vosges, the patrician part of the Marais. But given the feasting, you might well be waylaid by brunch or a gourmet dinner.

Time Out tip: Linger over breakfast in the clubby salons and tuck into the tastiest cheese-and-herb omelette – under the supercilious gaze of long-dead aristocrats.

Address: Le Pavillon de la Reine, 28 place des Vosges, 75003, Paris (Right Bank)

Price: Classic rooms for two from €350 per night, deluxe rooms from €600

Newly revamped, Hotel Dusquense Eiffel is a homely boutique hotel, and the perfect place for Eiffel Tower views and vintage charm. The tasteful décor blends classical busts and antiquarian books with understated heritage appeal.

This Left Bank retreat lies close to the military institutions that once dominated this area. Dating from 1797, the property served as lodgings for military cadets on manoeuvres nearby. From the exposed beams to the stone walls, period features are preserved, including in the charming vaulted cellars which now double as a cocooning spa. Keep in military mode by dining on bistrot classics in Café des Officiers nearby.

Time Out tip: All the bedrooms are inviting but to appreciate the neighbourhood’s star attraction, book a 5th floor room to benefit from balconies with Eiffel Tower vistas.

Known for bed-and-beverage hotels, the Experimental Group has created a clever cocktail here. This patrician 18th-century townhouse is tastefully reborn as a playful retreat in the heart of the action. The district, known for its department stores and dining scene, is not far from the Opéra Garnier.

Tuck into French-Italian country classics under Grand Boulevards' glass-covered courtyard which doubles as a secret garden. Sip creative cocktails on the summery rooftop terrace or retreat to its sultry sister bar in winter. Between cocktails, snooze in romantic suites under the eaves.

Time Out tip: Head for the local bar, where it all began for three friends who wanted to create a cocktail scene in Paris. Fuelled by gin and tequila, the cocktail kings went on to found the Experimental Group.

Address: 17 Boulevard Poissonnière, Paris, 75002 (Right Bank)

Price: Classic rooms for two from €220 per night

Closest transport: Metro Grands Boulevards

Best for: a boutiquey stay

Le Pavillon is a hidden secret set in the heart of monumental and political Paris, just around the corner from the Elysée, the Presidential palace, and the boutique-studded rue du Faubourg St Honoré.

Despite the ceremonial grandeur of the neighbourhood, this boutique retreat revels in its cosiness, cheery staff and literary spirit. The book-lined bar is home to an honesty bar while moody bedrooms are named after great writers. Literary treats range from bedtime stories to chocolates teasingly concealed in books.

Time out tip: For traditional French family cooking, Biche (https://www.biche-restaurant.com) is an “in the know” local spot, both good-value and popular with the smart set. Don’t be surprised to see a former French President feasting on boeuf bourguignon.

The new Minuit Express bar harks back to the golden age of rail travel, with its burnished bronze Deco look, matched by cocktails and sharing plates from around the world.

The hotel is dedicated to the Count de la Bourdonnais, an intrepid 18th-century adventurer and naval commander who fought the British for control of India. Soothing bedrooms evoke travels to uncharted lands, with prints of tall ships and oriental fans but never raid the dressing-up box of history. Here we take stock before sailing calmly on with our lives.

For art-lovers, this leafy, low-key Auteuil area is a stepping-stone to the Louis Vuitton and Yves Saint-Laurent foundations.

The artful residence is dotted with lamps, retro radios and vintage finds, which add a lived-in charm to the squishy sofas and piles of art books. You can espy the Eiffel Tower from certain bedrooms, including the top floor suite, inspired by the spirit of a sunlit Parisian apartment.

Best for: a budget stay

Le Pavillon is rightly proud of its Green credentials and boho spirit, all the more surprising for a boutique hideaway in the sought-after 7th district. Its garden patio and smattering of sculptures gives the hotel a restful, rural feel, despite the buzzing bars and brasseries on rue Saint-Dominique.

The arty, former monastery offers light-filled interiors, and shabby-chic bedrooms dotted with vintage finds and quirky art. Friendly, family-run and well-managed, if slightly cramped, the hotel is great value for a location so close to the Eiffel Tower, which is even visible from the hotel.
