This little corner is anything but gloomy. Headed up by bistro alchemist Florent Ciccoli, this tiny spot – a cousin of the also excellent Café du Coin – serves up good vibes, lovely small plates and fabulous natural wine. It’s the kind of place you feel at ease in from morning till night, whether inside the azure mosaic-tiled room with its classic bistro furniture and wooden counter, or at one of the few tables set out on the pavement of the quiet Rue Saint-Sabin.
On a loose sheet of paper, the numbered daily menu by chef Julie della Faille delivers food that’s simple, delicious, and precise: melting segments of leek tucked under a duvet of gribiche sauce; a flavoursome Ardèche caillette perched on crisp spring vegetables and black lentils; followed by a delicate rhubarb mille-feuille. Bistro cooking in all its modest glory – though a vegetarian option wouldn’t go amiss.
Highly quaffable natural wines: Trompe l’ennui from Domaine La Pierre Levée, the Alsatian Grrrr by Yannick Meckert… And in the morning, you can tuck into a soft-boiled egg with soldiers. In short, a little slice of paradise.
