The spanking new Vantage shop lots in Tanjung Tokong is slowly picking up with pretty good eateries and one of them is this one serving piping hot, delicious soupy noodles. Quay Pot's a new and improved take of its four decade family business known for their fish head bee hoon.
The simplicity of their flavours is just perfect for a somewhat low calorie but satisfying meal. There are only two soups to choose from – clear, fish broth or a tangy, lightly spicy one. In either one, steep four sort of noodles or porridge. Protein choices include pork, fish, squid, crabs and prawns from RM9.90 right up to RM21.90. There’s also a combination pot for two to six people consisting of seafood from RM39.90.
Our first recommendation here is their silk-soft tou qian that’s flat noodles not unlike koay teow but made out of soya bean in clear broth with kala fish meat at RM13.90. Sweet and umami flavours waft from the clear broth while the fresh fish and noodles give a dash of texture that’s sure to be a crowd pleaser.
Now, for cool, rainy days, we prefer the thin bee hoon steeping in their lightly spicy Ah Ma Spice Soup with pork meat and pork balls at RM9.90. The broth carries a cross of flavours between assam laksa and assam tumis. Best part is, they cleverly sprinkle mint leaves into the pot of noodles giving the dish an overall refreshing ‘oomph’ that helps cool down a tingling tongue.
Final recommendation is an appetiser they’ve yet to include in their menu of crispy, deep fried small sea fish at RM12 for eight pieces. In short, they’re fresh, crunchy and absolutely tasty. We hope it’ll be a permanent menu feature. Just in case, hurry on over to try it. Kitty Kaye
