Go green! Reduce your carbon footprint by exploring George Town on foot, by bicycle or in a trishaw. It’s an ideal alternative to renting a car, which leaves you at the mercy of the island’s notorious traffic.
Choose a bicycle from the litany of bike stores lining Chulia Street or hail an independent trishaw driver – they’re a dime a dozen in the centre of town. You may have to haggle with the bicycle or trishaw owners for a reasonable hourly rate, but dealing with them directly is a commendable means to support their livelihoods.
If you’d rather put yourself in the hands of an established company, head over to Metro Bike Centre on Pengkalan Weld. In addition to renting out bicycles and trishaws, the company organises quirky tours such as the ‘Night Fun Ride’ on LED-lit bikes and the guide-free ‘Audio Trishaw Tour’.
