Imagine writing your own theatre play and have it performed by a cast of professionals in the upcoming George Town Festival. If you're looking for a place to shine, seize the opportunity at 'Island and Cities: A Penang/Singapore Youth Playwriting Immersion Workshop' where six playwrights (three from Penang and Singapore respectively) will be chosen for this youth project.
Malaysian actor and director Huzir Sulaiman will choose a group of aspiring playwrights for a five-day workshop from June 4-9. Upon completion, each writer will have the chance to produce a ten-minute play, which will then be directed by Singaporean theatre director and actress Claire Wong.
Open to Penang and Singaporean youths aged 15-18, simply submit a summary of any previous theatre experience, a short piece on why you like to write, a short piece on why you would like to participate in the workshop as well as a 15-page original creative writing piece (short story, play, screenplay, poem or lyrics) to their email below.
