Though you might not realize, Bangkok has long been selected as filming locations. And, oftentimes, we were awed by the imagery of our city portrayed through foreigners' eyes. You might know about flicks like The Hangover Part II, Bridget Jones: The Age of Reason and Tomorrow Never Dies that filmed in Bangkok, right? So here, we've picked three other movies that you might not believe they were also shot in Bangkok.   In the Mood for Love (2000) A Wong Kar-wai masterpiece, In the Mood for Love tells a story of Mr. Chow (Leung) and Mrs. Chan (Cheung), neighbors who discover that their spouses are having an affair. Although the movie was set in 1962 Hong Kong, most of the scenes were shot at different locations in Chareonkrung, including those epic night-time shots and hotel scenes.   Only God Forgives (2013) Nicolas Winding Refn’s Bangkok-set, bloody revenge movie Only God Forgives marks the second collaboration (after 2011’s ‘Drive’), between the Danish director and Ryan Gosling, who plays Julian, an American drug dealer in the Thai capital who is drawn into a cycle of blood-letting when his brother kills a prostitute. The movie takes place mostly at night, allowing Winding Refn to indulge a fetish for neon. Even the grimmest locations are given a stylish boost by a glow of red or a flash of blue. The lighting, production design, and score are the film’s most artful elements that make Bangkok look different, yet beautiful.   Future Sex (2018) A sci-fi anthology created by

In celebration of its fifth year anniversary, Central Embassy has collaborated with Japanese galleries, Nanzuka and EchoOne Nanzuka, and tapped world-renowned artists, Hajime Sorayama and AMKK, to create a one-of-a-kind space-inspired exhibition. Called Sorayama Space Park by AMKK, the attraction highlights a life-sized aluminum cyborg of a Tyrannosaurus rex. We sat down for a quick chat with these Japanese artists about their creations, and these are what we learned. The T-Rex is a kid’s dream made real. Hajime Sorayama, the godfather of hyperrealistic illustrations and sculptures, has always been a fan of dinosaurs. He’s been drawing robot versions of dinosaurs since the ’80s, and fell in love with the Tyrannosaurus rex when he saw the film Jurassic Park. Sorayama Sexy is his state of mind. Sorayama has a fascination for sexy things, hence the sexy and realistic fembots, or Sexy Robots, that have become his signature. He likes putting softness and life into glistening metal and machinery. “It’s like making a Ferrari. It’s sexy, not like a truck or a bulldozer.” This T-Rex cyborg is making its first appearance in Bangkok. This gigantic 11-meter-long, 3.74-meter-tall T-Rex cyborg is the biggest he’s ever done, and likely the most realistic (except for the fact that it’s a metallic silver). He tends to make the T-Rex looks "more alive," unlike most of his previous figurines. “The T-Rex is running. It’s something I’ve never done before.” This creation actually premiered in B

Chef Taigo Narizuka, who has had more than 10 years at various Michelin-starred kaiseki and sushi establishments in Tokyo and New York, promises to bring an unforgettable experience to Sushi Ichizu. To celebrate its 150th anniversary, Neilson Hays Library, in collaboration with the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture (OCAC), will be hosting Neilson Hays Bangkok Literature Festival for the first time ever. The event will be featuring more than 25 renowned Thai and international writers such as American Pulitzer prize winner Adam Johnson, Stella prize winner Clare Wright and Veeraporn Nitiprapha, the author of SEA Write winning title in 2018 The Blind Earthworm in the Labyrinth. There will be talks, panel discussions, and poetry readings. For the first time, Bangkokians will get to an up-close encounter with Terracotta Warriors from World's renowned Qin Shi Huang Tomb in China as the world-touring event Qin Shi Huang: The First Emperor of China and the Terracotta Warriors will make a three-month stop in Bangkok between 15 Sep-15 Dec. Four rooms inside the Bangkok National Museum will be taken over by more than 130 life-size sculptures of the Terracotta Army and other artifacts. The terracotta army was built more than 2,000 years ago in order to guard the tomb of the great Qin Shi Huang, China's first emperor from the era of the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC).  Qin Shi Huang: The First Emperor of China and the Terracotta Warriors will be held at Bangkok National Museum on 15 Sep-15 Dec. Tickets start from B30. The world's largest hiphop festival Rolling Loud is confirmed heading to Hong Kong in Oct, and it's going to be the city's first-ever outdoor hiphop festival. The inaugural event's just announced its line-up with names like Migos and Wiz Khalifa as headliners. The 2-day festival also includes Playboi Carti, $uicideboy$, Ski Mask the Slump God, Smokepurpp and more. The festival will be held at West Kowloon Park on 19-20 Oct.
