Time Out says

One of the most beautiful historic residences in Rome, Villa Spalletti Trivelli is an opulent boutique hotel located on one of the fabled Seven Hills of Rome. A stone’s throw from the Quirinale, the residence of Italy’s president, the urban villa sits on a quiet street with a garden and rooftop, providing an elegant refuge from the bustle of the capital. It’s also just a short walk from the Trevi Fountain and the Monti neighborhood meaning you’re close to all the action.

Built in the early 1900s, the palazzo was the former residence of Countess Rasponi who hosted frequent visitors for cultural events. The ambiance has remain unchanged, with elegant salons and living rooms filled with bookshelves for unwinding, reading and enjoying an aperitif at any hour of the day. As soon as you step inside, you’ll be greeted by architectural details like vaulted arches, marble columns and a wrought-iron, Art Deco staircase. The walls are adorned museum-grade paintings, tapestries and antique maps from the family's own collection, creating a homey atmosphere that is luxurious but relaxed.

Part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the world brand, it has 12 rooms in the main villa, offering an intimate stay in a beautiful setting. The rooms are cozy with vintage flair — they are outfitted with antique furnishings, marble bathrooms and a color palette of red, ochre and sage green walls. The hotel also has two Garden Suites within the complex, and two Apartments right nearby, offering more space for families of four.

The wellness center is styled to resemble an ancient Roman bathhouse and features a tepidarium, steam room and relaxation room. There's also a rooftop terrace with Jacuzzi pools and a small bar where guests can enjoy complimentary spirits, wines and prosecco.

Neighbourhood
Just up the street from Monti on one side and the Trevi Fountain on the other, the hotel is in a strategic position to explore Rome — just be sure to pack comfortable shoes, as it’s a walk back up the hill. There are many overlooked artistic gems right in the vicinity. The Quattro Fontane – four historic fountains with gods and goddesses — are located at a main intersection down the road. Next door, it’s worth visiting Bernini's spectacular oval Chiesa di Sant'Andrea al Quirinale. And the quiet Villa Aldobrandini gardens are a nice place to relax away from the crowds.

Nearby
Galleria Colonna: Another opulent resident, Galleria Colonna is one of the best hidden gems of Rome. This Baroque palace dates back to the 1300s and features a Great Hall that rivals the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles.

Palazzo delle Esposizioni: This grand, neoclassical building on Via Nazionale hosts contemporary art exhibitions, film screenings and other cultural events through the year.

Mercati di Triano: If you want to enjoy Roman ruins without the crowds, head over to Emperor Trajan’s 2,000-year-old markets. Built upon six levels, this archeological site is a stand-out of Imperial architecture.

Time Out tip
Villa Spalletti Trivelli also owns a family winery near Perugia, in Umbria, which produces organic wines and extra virgin olive oil. Contact the hotel to arrange a unique day trip to the countryside.
