With its postcard-perfect bridges, rows of colorful Victorian houses and impressive array of restaurant, bars and coffee shops, San Francisco is begging to be explored—on bike, on foot or by historic Cable Car. The city is compact (only 49 square miles), so most of the popular attractions, restaurants and museums are a short walk from downtown SF and close to stops for public transportation systems Muni and BART. Plus, staying in the eastern portion of the city will mean you're more likely to see the sun and avoid San Francisco's famous fog (which hangs around pretty much year round).
