Playfreely: Closer to the Edge

Time Out says

Hands up if you think most pop music these days is boring, repetitive and unexciting. If that's you, you'll want to check out this two-day festival of experimental music, free improv, Downtown jams, laptronica and noise. A joint effort between The Observatory and the Asian Meeting Festival from Japan, Closer to the Edge features the likes of Otomo Yoshihide, Takashi Makino, Senyawa and Yuen Chee Wai as they coax strange, beautiful sounds from their instruments.

The concerts are, to put it mildly, loose. Nothing is rehearsed. Musicians gather on stage in groups, each taking turns to play off the other – and as you'd expect, the combinations range from the cacophonic to the cathartic.
