There are plenty of hidden treasures to be found in the old-school housing estate of Everton Park – blending inconspicuously among the ground-floor HDB shophouse units are independent bakers (Batterworks), indie coffee joints (Nylon Coffee Roasters) and a tiny cake-in-a-jar shop (Grin Affair). Now, add Just Want Coffee to that growing list; it’s the second outlet by coffee-mad owners who hail from just across the Causeway, where their flagship store is based at Johor Bahru (they’re also opening a third one there soon).
No prizes for guessing JWC’s specialty though – their espresso blend ($3.50 for a single shot, $4 double) is a Full City roast, which is darker and more muted in acidity (and purportedly also sweeter) compared to the typical Third Wave indie spots, and there’s also five handcrafted single-origins prepared any three ways: siphon ($6.50), flannel or drip (both $5.50). With its minimalist Taiwanese café-style décor space and relaxing vibe, this 30-seater is a decent place to spend a lazy weekend – order up a couple of sweet treats from the limited food menu, such as the blueberry cheesecake ($5) and mille crepe ($5), to go with your cuppa.
