Owners Eunice Leow and Joanna Chuah serve up pancakes in three flavours: plain, chocolate and peanut butter. For them, it has always been the thicker, aerated, leavened batter. ‘Nothing against crêpes, but I’ve just never thought of crêpes or [setting up a crêperie],’ Leow says. So confident and determined are Leow and Chuah in their evenly browned, slightly elastic, cake-textured flatcakes that they didn’t stop at the Blackforest – a massive stack of three chocolate pancakes layered with home-made chocolate sauce, served with bulging brandied cherries, chocolate shavings, cream and vanilla ice cream. Instead, they offer their hotcakes with an equal myriad of savoury toppings, including one that uses pancakes as buns to hold a beef patty.
