Time Out Singapore in partnership with Mercedes-Benz

When it comes to mobility, industry stalwarts Mercedes-Benz have definitely paved the way – and have outdone themselves by doing so in a more sustainable way. The automaker has already fully embraced its mission to be more energy-efficient and reduce the impact of vehicles on the environment. As of now, Mercedes-Benz has created more energy-saving production methods, more efficient processes, and it uses renewable and low-carbon fuels to operate its plants. These changes are only the beginning. Currently, Mercedes-Benz is aiming to go all-electric by 2030 and have a CO2-neutral car fleet by 2039.

But beyond the tech and science of it all, the brand is also dedicated to engaging and driving its central theme of sustainability in Singapore. Mercedes-Benz Singapore together with its authorised dealer Cycle and Carriage, has opened a concept store in Great World (a certified, sustainable building as well!) to showcase just how serious – and passionate – they are about its ambition. Here’s why you should get involved too.

More than just a showroom

In partnership with HYPEMAKER, the global creative studio of HYPEBEAST, the store concept was brought to life. Designed with sustainability at its core, the materials used in its construction had to be eco-friendly as well – spot the cool-looking terrazzo-print stools that are crafted out of sustainable materials like plastic foam and household waste. There will also be three experiential zones in the store for visitors: The Showcase, Artist @ Work and The Takeover.

Yes, there will be cars in the store

At The Showcase zone – it’s so much more than a touch-and-go experience. Visitors can get a closer look at the Mercedes-Benz EQ electric vehicle models – like the upcoming EQS luxury sedan and also learn about the brand’s vision for transport and what society will be like in the future through an immersive digital installation by Metamo Industries. Here, you can also book a test drive on the EQC and EQA.

Sip on a coffee

Walk over to the Foreword Coffee Roasters bar for a beverage – only exclusive for store guests. The coffee company and social enterprise are also focused on environmental and social impact and implement greener business practices in its model – for example, it imports beans from neighbouring countries to reduce carbon footprint without compromising on quality and taste.

Watch life grow

Who knew plants could be art too? Be awed by this growing piece of art named “Green Beginnings”. This self-sustaining highlight piece in the store is constructed by local biophilic interior design company Mosscape with mostly flat moss and is meticulously arranged in the outline of Singapore. Some other plants like eucalyptus and languinosa are also put in the mix to add texture to the piece while showcasing how green some parts of Singapore are. The aim is to infuse the outdoors with the indoors, reminding us that nature is a part of daily lives and can be both beautiful and inspirational.

It’s a place of dialogue

Sustainability is living, breathing – and changing and Mercedes-Benz hopes the in-store installations will remind us and encourage the public to continue to discuss sustainability in the community. As with sustainability being a process – the store too will be changing its installations and constantly introducing and collaborating with like-minded people and brands. Pop by to check out automobile models, have a coffee, gaze at art and join the conversation on how we can contribute to a greener future while also contemplating the impact we leave behind. The time has come to take charge of a more sustainable tomorrow.
