It’s set to be a wicked October at ArtScience Museum. Marking the 100th anniversary of arguably the first horror film ever made – The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari – ArtScience on Screen goes full scream with a suite of onsite and online Expressionist horror-themed programmes.
From October 10 to November 6, catch limited onsite screenings of the original 1920 restored horror film and find out why it became a worldwide sensation. David Lynch buffs should also get in on the action, with a specially curated series of five chilling short films: Six Men Getting Sick, The Alphabet, The Grandmother, The Amputee and Version 1 and Version 2 and Premonitions Following an Evil Deed. Tickets for both programmes are limited, so we’d recommend pre-booking them online at ticket.marinabaysands.com/mbs/booking/asos2020 from October 7 onwards. Admission is free for all film screenings.
Online, tune into the ‘ArtScience Late at Home’ series featuring musician and producer Fauxe doing his best Caligarian-Expressionist spin on a livestream musical piece; and turn the pages of the ‘Scream Zine’, where five local illustrators reimagine the film as historical folklore in the style of wayang kulit (traditional Indonesian puppet theatre), Chinese opera, vintage Malay films and modern ukiyo-e.
Kids can learn to create their very own Spooktacular prints from home with the ‘Make Your Own Halloween Stencil’ online workshop; or cuddle up under the blankets while embarking on a virtual tour to discover chill-inducing stories behind some of the spookiest artefacts from the museum’s past exhibitions.
