Fashion Revolution Week – the world's largest fashion activism movement – returns to Singapore once again. This year's theme? Money Fashion Power. From April 18 to 24, the festival will be bringing in-depth talks and workshops meant to discuss and analyse the systematic exploitation of labour and natural resources in fashion – and equip participants with the knowledge and skills to overcome them in everyday life.
First up is a series of thought-provoking virtual panel discussions led by activists, scholars, brands and members of the public. They will debate topics across the circular economy, greenwashing, overconsumption in thrifting, and fashion culture – with the aim of tabling a variety of viewpoints, challenging assumptions, and illuminating a way forward.
Fashion Revolution Week has also prepared hands-on workshops at Open Studio @ Cineleisure. Pick up practical clothing and shoe-mending skills, get acquainted with the textile dyeing technique of Shibori, gain a deeper understanding of how garments are made through a garment analysis workshop, or pick up new methods of upcycling.
The mainstream fashion industry is currently geared towards growth and profit, laying waste to our environment and low-paid labour across the world. Fashion Revolution Week seeks to provide the knowledge and tools needed for us to rise up and change the fashion system.
