In a bid to promote original Singaporean fare, Shangri-La Hotel will be bringing in nine young hawkers from six famous eateries – Habib’s Rojak, Ru Ji Kitchen, Rong Cheng Bak Kut Teh, Xiao Di Fried Prawn Noodle, Kway Guan Huat Joo Chiat Original Popiah and Toast Hut – into one single location for an all-you-can-eat dinner buffet special. There will also be a photo exhibition showcasing our old, dedicated hawkers and a talk given by Mr. Daniel Wang, Singapore’s former Commissioner of Public Health, about the rich history of hawker centres in Singapore. Mr. Sinma DaShow, author of Not For Sale – Singapore’s Remaining Heritage Street Food Vendors will also be making an appearance for an autograph session.
