The Esplanade is one of Singapore’s more recognisable landmarks, with its distinct durian-shaped architecture. And as our national performing arts centre, this very landmark has spurred our arts and culture scene for an impressive 20 years.
To mark its 20th anniversary, they’re celebrating all year long with PopLore – A Year of Singapore Popular Music. This series presents popular music from our own little red dot, spanning all the way back from the 60s to today.
As Programmer at The Esplanade Melissa Poon says, “We want to do something to galvanise the music scene which has been badly hit by the pandemic and to renew a sense of community after a prolonged period of being physically apart for many of us.”
Now, look forward to performances by famous singer-songwriter Dick Lee and industry talents like the “King of Swing” Jeremy Monteiro. They’ll be joining in the celebrations in the upcoming months of June and July with live concerts.
Dick Lee & Omnitones ft. Third Degree
Often hailed as one of Singapore’s most recognised singer-songwriters, Dick Lee will be joined by Omnitones and vocal trio Third Degree as part of PopLore’s lineup. On June 18, head down to Esplanade Concert Hall to enjoy his well-loved ballads alongside new music specially created by Dick Lee and Omnitones.
45 RPM – Jeremy’s Jazz Journal
Having made music for a staggering 45 years, jazz musician Jeremy Monteiro is known as the “King of Swing” for good reason, with his deft piano playing skill going unrivalled. Monteiro will be performing on July 1 and 2, along with his friends and music collaborators – the likes of Toby Tan, Mahani Mohammed, Stardust and many more.
Tickets for each are priced at $48, $78 and $98. There are limited concessions for students, seniors, NSFs and PWDs, and Esplanade&Me members can also enjoy special discounts.
