Time Out says

Almost four decades on, the film score of Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence continues to stir hearts and minds. Now is your chance to get closer to the composer behind this iconic score, at ArtScience Museum's Sight Through Sound: Ryuichi Sakamoto, a film programme that traces the Japanese musician and composer's brilliant legacy of bringing movies to life.

Ryuichu Sakamoto has over four decades of work to his name, and a resume studded with award-winning movies and celebrated directors such as Bernado Bertolucci, Pedro Almodovar, and Alejandro Innaritu. Sight Through Sound: Ryuichi Sakamoto, takes you on a journey through four distinct eras of Sakamoto's film score compositions – showcasing his incredible growth and inventive genius.

Experience Sakamoto's masterful grasp of a diverse range of musical styles: the majestic and emotive orchestration of Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (1983) early in his career; the restrained and mature turn in Tony Takitani (2004); and his minimalist and abstract score to complement the space movie Proxima (2021). Fans old and new can also follow Sakamoto's life and legacy in the documentary Ryuichi Sakamoto: Coda (2017).
