Step away from Mallorca’s coast and you’ll find a very different island. In the wide plains of Es Pla, framed by the Tramuntana and Llevant mountains, life moves to a slower beat. This is the Mallorca of open farmland, ancient windmills and stone-built villages, where weekly markets and festivals keep tradition alive. One of these villages is Montuïri, and just a few kilometres outside it lies Finca Serena. First built in the 17th century and transformed in 2019 into a five-star, adults-only (14+) hideaway, it’s a hotel designed for those who want to tune out the noise and soak up the quiet rhythms of the countryside.

Spread across 40 hectares of vineyards, olive groves and lavender fields, the finca has just 25 rooms, each with its own character. Some are hidden close to the vines, others open out onto terraces with wide country views, and the signature villa adds a private pool and chill-out area. Inside, you’ll find contemporary comforts layered over rustic touches: rainfall showers, Egyptian cotton sheets, feather duvets, daily fresh fruit and in-room spa access.

Eating well is central here, built around what’s fresh and local. The estate produces its own olive oil and rosé and white wines. In summer, they put on live music nights with paella and barbecues. The Único Spa (twice named Spain’s best resort spa) is a highlight: 250 square metres of calm with hammam, sauna, heated pool and natural treatments. Outdoors, guests can lounge by the pool, wander or cycle the trails, or simply take in Es Pla’s sweeping views.

Time Out tip: Every Thursday, Finca Serena puts on its own wine tastings showcasing the hotel’s homegrown wine, paired with local cheeses and snacks.

Address: Ma-3200 km 3, 07230 Montuïri

Price: From €333 per night

Closest transport: TIB bus stop in Montuïri with links to Palma. The airport is around 25 minutes away

At the northern tip of Mallorca lies Cala Sant Vicenç, a cluster of turquoise coves framed by the Tramuntana mountains. Quiet, unspoilt and distinctly Mallorcan, it’s here that El Vicenç de la Mar has made its home – a five-star adults-only hideaway (14+) designed for travellers seeking sea views, calm and just the right touch of indulgence. Opened in 2022, the hotel belongs to the Mallorca Ç Collection and blends seamlessly into its dramatic coastal setting. With only 35 rooms, it feels intimate but polished. Entry-level doubles are elegant and bright, but the standout is the Penthouse Suite, which takes up the entire top floor: 74m² of interiors, a vast terrace, its own pool and sweeping mountain and sea views. All rooms include high-speed Wi-Fi, smart TVs, pillow menus, spa access and luxe bathrooms, with extras like Jacuzzis or private plunge pools available in certain categories.

Dining is a major draw here. Michelin-starred chef Santi Taura runs U Vicenç, the rooftop restaurant where dishes inspired by ‘new Mallorcan cuisine’ are served against a backdrop of the Cavall Bernat cliffs. Think tumbet-filled cannelloni, croquettes like grandma’s, or ensaimadas with escaldums. Breakfasts are equally rewarding, while U Mayol bistro downstairs offers casual Mediterranean fare for lunch or dinner.

Facilities go well beyond the standard spa-and-gym combo. There’s a wellness area with a glass-roofed pool, sauna and treatments, a 24-hour gym, a cosy library, and a private cinema. Step outside and Cala Sant Vicenç’s four beaches – Molins, Clara, Barques and Carbó – await, with fine sand and clear waters. Whether it’s a swim before breakfast or a hike followed by sunset wine, this is Mallorca at its most serene.

Time Out tip: Make use of the hotel’s Bike Centre with e-bike rentals, storage and repair facilities – the epic Tramuntana mountains are right on your doorstep after all.

Address: Carrer de Cala Molins, 6, 07469 Cala Sant Vicenç, Mallorca

Price: Rooms from €580 per night

Closest transport: TIB bus stop at Cala Sant Vicenç with links to Palma; the airport is about 50 minutes away

When Palma was the playground of the jet set in the 1950s and ’60s, the Hotel Victoria was right at the centre of the action. Opened in the 1920s as Villa Victoria, it became a favourite haunt for artists, celebrities and those shaping the island’s golden age. A century later, it’s been reborn as the Hotel Victoria Gran Meliá – still glamorous, but with the contemporary polish today’s travellers expect. Perched on Palma’s Paseo Marítimo, the hotel overlooks the marina, where yachts sway on the Mediterranean. From here you can see Palma’s Gothic cathedral, La Seu.

Inside, there are more than 170 rooms, from compact Deluxe Singles with classic wood-panel details to the lavish RedLevel Presidential Suite with over 100m² of space, two terraces and a whirlpool tub. All are fitted with air con, flat-screen TVs, Wi-Fi, minibars, robes and thoughtful extras. Food is another highlight, from local treats at breakfast to candelit dinner at Victoria Grand Café.

Guests are welcomed with a drink at check-in, and service is polished but warm. Those booking RedLevel can expect VIP perks like butler service and personalised attention. Facilities include a large outdoor pool (open May–October), a spa with sauna and indoor pool, a gym and business amenities. Step outside for Palma’s nightlife, or retreat back into calm with views of the cathedral glowing over the bay. Blending old-world glamour with modern comforts, the Victoria Gran Meliá is an icon reinvented – city, sea and style all in one.

Time Out tip: If you’re travelling for business, you can take advantage of the hotel’s business centre, workspaces and meeting rooms.

4. Cap Rocat

Dubbed as the Mediterranean’s most private resort, Cap Rocat is a castle of luxury located on Cala Blava beach on the southern coast of Mallorca. Built into a cliff, it primes guests with exceptional views, whilst being hidden away in a protected natural and marine reserve. It also comes with its own private beach for guests. It used to be a military fortress built for the surveillance of the Bay of Palma. During its renovation into an adults-only hotel it has retained its imposing architecture – drawbridges, watchtowers, vaulted chamber – and added bougie deluxe rooms and an underground spa. The project received the Europa Nostra Award.

Bedrooms are literally built into the rock and there’s plenty of design to marvel at across the rooms: wooden ceilings, marble floors and mirrored doors in the bathrooms so guests can always see the sea. Suites have private plunge pools and multiple terraces. If you really want to splash some cash, the romantic Suite El Cabo for two has a canopied bed, living room , huge bathroom with a free standing bath, three terraces, a private swimming pool and a gazebo. The Turkish spa is a highlight, and is built into the old walls of the fortress 12 metres below ground, while still harnessing natural light. It includes a saltwater pool, hammam, relaxation rooms, and multiple spa treatment options. There’s even yoga classes and a hairdresser’s.

There is La Fortaleza, a more formal dining experience focusing on local, seasonal ingredients with two different tasting menus, based on Majorcan traditions. Then there’s Sea Club, a more relaxed space for light meals and grilled seafood next to the sea, as the name suggests.

Time Out tip: Set sail on the hotel’s eight hour boat tour to explore more hidden treasures around the island

Address: Carretera d’Enderrocat, s/n, Cala Blava, Mallorca, 07609, Spain

Price: €467 for a double room in low season

5. Hotel Can Mostatxins

This adults-only, cave-like hotel in the historic centre of Alcúdia, Mallorca, is brimming with style and character. Which won’t come as a surprise, Mostaxins is the Mallorcan word for moustache. It got its name after a famous local butcher who was recognisable for his impressive tash; you’ll find plenty of nods to this throughout.

The small-scale hotel inhabits two neighbouring Gothic-style buildings from the 15th century that have been restored to blend history with modern comfort, while retaining plenty of exposed brick to keep the romantic atmosphere going. Its 8 rooms are across two wings and some come with a balcony. The grand Tower Suite Quinze, like the name suggests, is a two-floored apartment located in the building’s historic tower – the tallest point in the hotel. It also has private access to a glass footbridge that stretches over the jacuzzi and courtyard area.

There’s a wellness spa, a seasonal outdoor pool and an indoor plunge pool for year-round cooling off, a jacuzzi and free access to bikes allowing you to explore the area from two wheels. There’s no restaurant on site but step outside and you’re spoiled for choice with food options. Restaurant Celler Ca’n Costa Alcúdia is a highly rated historic family restaurant with seasonal specialities in an old courtyard. For tapas and Mediterranean dishes, Merlet has an extensive menu and friendly staff. Mostaxins is also an 8-minute walk from the Roman ruins of Pollentia, 2 km from Alcúdia Beach and 3 km from ferries at Port Alcúdia.

Time Out tip: Check out the white sand and turquoise sea of Alucudia beach, which is an 11-minute cycle away

Address: Carrer del Lledoner 15, 07400 Alcúdia, Majorca, Spain

Price: Starting from €83 per night for the cheapest room.

There’s a reason why this intimate boutique hotel is often rated among the top in Palma. Posada Santa Terra is set in a gorgeous 16th-century palace. Its traditional terracotta stone walls, spa and rooftop pool have everything you need for a rejuvenating stay in Mallorca’s happening capital city. Enjoy local cuisine at the hotel’s La Despensa del Barón restaurant where there’s typical Mediterranean fare on offer. Expect tapas, regional wines and seasonal produce allowing you to discover the island through your tastebuds.

Cool off in Posada Santa Terra’s rooftop plunge pool which comes with unique vistas over the old town. The solarium on the terrace is the perfect place to sip a cocktail and admire the sunset. Continue your wellness journey at the hotel’s private spa which is located in a stone vault. There’s a heated pool and a range of treatments including personalised facials. Posada Santa Terra’s 26 rooms are elegant and comfortable with wooden floors. Its biggest room, Baron’s Suite, comes with Renaissance stone arches and views of the hotel’s courtyard. The Preferred Duplex is set across two floors and has a library and separate lounge. 9. L'Avenida

The cobbled historic town of Sóller is the island’s top visited place, and staying in this adults-only 100-year-old townhouse is the perfect way to explore the area. In a valley of orange groves, the mountain village of Sóller is a must-see stop. From there you can take the historic train to Palma on the heritage railway, Ferrocarril de Sóller, which opened in 1912. Settle into a vintage carriage and admire the view as the train crosses the Tramuntana mountains. There’s also a lovely beach for swimming at the Port, a botanical garden, modernist chapels, weekly markets and hiking trails.

But there’s plenty of activity going on inside L’Avenida too. The boutique hotel has a cardio gym, a garden with a pool, as well as wellness treatments including Kama Ayurveda massages. From the outside, the building is an artwork in itself, with wrought iron motifs and decorative stone work. Inside, L’Avenida blends original architecture – such as ornate ceilings, wooden beams, limestone arches, and marble detailing – with modern interior touches (leather, wallpaper, contemporary furnishings) to fuse old and new across its three floors.

The hotel is a 9 minute walk from the famous British poet Robert Graves’s home. For local art, head to Sa Tafona gallery, there’s local fetes and the Deià International Music Festival is one of Europe’s most important classical music festivals. To refuel after a day of pedalling up hills there’s Cafe Deiá for tapas with a view. Balm and Groenk Bistro & Grill Deiá are also highly rated.
