Time Out says

Vikum Bandara is an artist who attempts to depict the spiritual side of modern humans in his exhibition, ti- tled “Bliss of the soul”. In his works, he highlights that the real bliss of the mind is not merely based on materi- alistic accumulations but on the free- dom and the satisfaction of the soul. He uses this universal concept on his canvases to visualize the very nature of blissful soul.

Vikum Bandara’s passion for art is based on abstract, an inspiration, which he continues to develop over time. Bandara loves to experiment various colours, freely on canvas and he thinks it is a powerful way of expressing his own thoughts. Colours can attract the minds easily; each and every colour patch of painting express- es the feelings of the artist. Having being inspired by the works of artists such as Wassily Kandinsky, Mark Rothko and Jackson Pollock, Vikum Bandara emphasizes that abstract art is an effective style to express compli- cated modern phenomena.

The artist’s ambition is to reveal the inner side of human mind and indicate the ultimate spiritual bliss of the mind. He consciously creates colour patch- es on the canvas to achieve his target. In addition to the colour patches, he also uses textures as well as colours to enhance the quality of paintings. Most of his paintings consist of many elab- orate details of colours and textures, which inspires the viewers’ mind.

“Blending mixed media with acryl- ic or oil allows to express my modern experiences and feelings,” says Vikum Bandara. “I enjoy both transpar- ent effects of acrylic paints as well as opaque effects of oil paints. In addi- tion to oil and acrylic, I also use high quality textures to enhance my quality of painting.”

Vikum Bandara’s abstract col- lection will be displayed at Paradise Road Galley.
