J C Rathnayake says that when special identities are transcended by economic reality, we encounter stimulations that are deprived of substance. The artist believe in all-consuming, total and global system that colonises the space of the planet and its disparate temporatlities, there is an underlying uniformity despite the apparent diversification of the cultural sphere. At every corner, we are confronted with the tiresome phenomena of repetitive imitations and the constant recycling of the past.
"What does it teach us about the reality of our life that lacks the advent of the new?" "What images are shown to us through this permeation of stimulations without substantial originality?" These are some of the questions that guided Rathnayake to initiate the works of "Meaning of Stimulations."
Ultimately, it is an attempt to trace the elusive meaning of essence that seems to escape our grasp and to present this withdrawal itself in its act of disappearance.
