Big, hollow and serene Stupa of Kalutara

Passing the bridge of Kalutara, amidst the trees and above the waters of Kalu Ganga a strikingly beautiful white Dagaba can be seen. Built in 1960 the viharaya is big in size and roofs another dagaba inside it. The serene nature it is located in calms the senses and fills you with tranquility.

This hollow temple instantly gives you a sense of peace with its quiet yet big ambience, all the walls, which are painted with Jataka tales will keep you walking around the stupa reading the stories with great interest. The soft sand and the shady atmosphere under the Bo tree is cooling and nothing less of beautiful, you can see the faithful followers of  Buddha meditating, reciting their prayers with great hope and a visit to the temple will surely make you want to experience a piece of their serenity.
