The Dalada Maligawa of Kandy organises the event to distribute oil for lighting lamps in the temples of rural areas and Dalada Mligawa itself. Lamps are lit to venerate God Natha, God Vishnu, Goddess Pattini and God Kataragama on the 23rd and dancers, tuskers and devotees gather to celebrate the joy of unity on the 25th.
