Time Out says

Ancient rock monastery

A large and unusual rock formation that sits alongside the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, the two icons dominate the landscape. Pidurangala like Sigiriya, has historical ties to King Kashyapa (475 - 491 AD), and is an ancient monastery complex. The climb to the stone summit is arduous and well worth the effort yielding breathtaking views of the vast landscape around.  Visitors can explore the many cave dwellings, nooks and crannies with echoes of the past.  Other points of interest are the natural pond, the image house which shelters standing and reclining Buddha statues, and paintings on cave walls.
