There was speculation a few weeks back that Disney Plus – the star-studded streaming service from the House of Mouse – would arrive in Japan this summer, instead of its original launch date of November 2020. It turns out the rumours were right! Disney Plus Japan has officially announced it will launch on June 11, so even though the state of emergency has been lifted, we’ll have a big reason to stay home.

Although Japan already has its own
Disney Deluxe streaming service, Disney fans will have access to much more content when Disney Plus gets going. There will be over 500 movies, including Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic films, as well as over 100 different TV series, some of which are exclusive to Disney Plus. You’ll find all-time favourite movies like 'The Lion King', 'The Avengers', 'Toy Story', and 'Frozen', as well as original content including the live-action adaptation of 'Lady and the Tramp' and 'High School Musical: The Musical: The Series'.

You can sign up to Disney Plus via the official website, or if you’re an NTT Docomo customer, you can also subscribe via your NTT account. Disney Plus will cost ¥700 per month, making it slightly cheaper than Netflix Japan, which starts at ¥800. Moreover, your first month is free.
