Last year, Disney launched its hotly anticipated streaming service, offering access to pretty much every Disney movie and TV show, including major franchises like Star Wars, Marvel and Pixar, for a monthly subscription. Sadly, while the US, Canada and Netherlands have had Disney Plus since November 2019, no official launch date was given for Japan.

The wait is nearly over. According to a news report on CNET, Disney Plus is scheduled to launch in Japan in June 2020, just in time for some serious summer binge watching. Local Japanese film news website MovieWalker also reported the same.

At last, Japanese fans will be able to watch the acclaimed Star Wars series, The Mandalorian (hello, Baby Yoda), along with Disney's upcoming exclusive Marvel TV shows, 5,000 episodes and movies from Disney Channel, 30 seasons of The Simpsons, 250 hours worth of National Geographic, and much more. There are also plenty of original movies, series and documentaries that are exclusive to the Disney Plus app.

Japan currently has its own Disney Deluxe streaming service, launched in March 2019 as a partnership between the House of Mouse and NTT Docomo. It’s unrelated to Disney Plus, but offers similar content, although with a more limited lineup, for ¥780 per month.

The monthly price for Disney Plus in Japan has yet to be revealed. We will keep you updated if and when the launch is confirmed.
