One of the earliest sakura seasons on record, from the Meguro River to Sensoji Temple, as captured by Tokyoites

Tokyo usually attracts visitors from around the world for its cherry blossoms, but due to the pandemic, most festivities have been cancelled to avoid crowds. Many parks also banned picnics this year for the same reason, but that hasn’t stopped Tokyoites from seeking out these beautiful spring sakura at local gardens, parks and rivers.
We’ve rounded up some of the best photos on social media showing Greater Tokyo’s cherry blossoms in all their glory. So even if you weren’t able to visit some, or any, of these areas to see the pink blossoms, you can still get into the hanami spirit and celebrate the coming of spring.
