Milo is back on sale in Japan – and it's serving fruity Milo drinks at a Tokyo pop-up

The popular malted chocolate drink is back in stores nationwide after being sold out for three months since last year

Milo drinkers in Japan were met with empty supermarket shelves late last year when social media posts on the supposed health benefits of the popular chocolate malt beverage led to a 700 percent sales boom and a surprise shortage. After Milo was wiped off shelves for three months, manufacturer Nestlé has announced that fans can now breathe easy: sales have resumed on March 1, meaning Milo will be available at supermarkets nationwide, as well as via an official online shop.

Milo is usually sold in 240g bags and five-stick packs, but massive 700g bags are also available in some stores. The malt-chocolate powder is usually added to milk, but it’s popular throughout Southeast Asia in desserts and sweets.

If you’re still having trouble finding this chocolatey beverage, don’t worry – Tokyo is getting its own Nestlé beverage stand at the Odakyu line platform in Machida station. It’ll be serving Milo drinks from March 6 to April 30. Aside from the basic milk and Milo combination (¥200) which will be available both hot and cold, the menu will also include fancy fruity flavours like Milo with banana (¥300) and Milo with pineapple and kiwi (¥300). You can also enjoy these drinks at Nescafé Harajuku for a limited time.
