Eager to take in some art along with the seasonal foliage this autumn? You’re in luck: six Tokyo Metropolitan Government-run museums and cultural institutions are reducing their fees and extending their opening hours during the season.
The Edo-Tokyo Museum, the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, the Tokyo Shibuya Koen-dori Gallery, the Teien Art Museum and the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum are staying open until 8pm on Fridays from November 6 to November 27.
Mirroring the currently running Summer Night Museum programme, the autumn version will also feature discounts for general admission after 5pm, as well as free admission for students to some venues. Here are the details for each institution.
Tokyo Metropolitan Edo-Tokyo Museum
Friday opening hours extended to 8pm from November 6 to November 27
On Fridays during the event period, visitors can enjoy the museum’s permanent exhibition after the usual closing time of 5pm, with free admission for students and a 20 percent discount for adults. The ‘NHK Taiga Drama Special Exhibition: Brothers in Arms’ exhibition is open until 8pm as well on November 6, but will not offer free admission for students.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum will extend its opening hours until 8pm on November 20 and 27, giving visitors the chance to enjoy three exhibitions in the evening. These include the free exhibitions ’100th Anniversary of the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum: Ways of Reading – How the World Speaks to Us, How We Speak to the World’ and ‘100th Anniversary Archives Exhibition: The History of the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum’, as well as the paid exhibition ‘100th Anniversary of the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum: What a Wonderful World: Masterworks from the Musée d’Orsay’ – but at the full ticket price.
Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum
Friday opening hours extended to 8pm on November 6, 13, 20 and 27
The ‘Marimekko: Art of Printmaking – Beauty, Dream, Love’ exhibition will be open until 8pm on Fridays. Evening openings of the historic Art Deco building will also be held on November 21 and 28 and December 4 and 5. The museum’s garden will be open during the extended hours as well, although access through parts of the Japanese garden will be limited to 6pm.

The ‘Duet: Asian Contemporary’ exhibition will be open until 8pm on Fridays. Evening openings will also be held on Thursdays November 5, 12, 19 and 26.
The ‘Reassembling: Emerging Japanese Artists vol. 23’ exhibition will follow the same extended Friday hours on November 6, 13, 20 and 27, with additional evening openings on November 5, 12, 19 and 26.
Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo
Friday opening hours extended to 8pm on November 6, 13, 20 and 27
Three exhibitions will be available to enjoy during the extended Friday hours: ‘Tada Minami: Still, shimmering light’, ‘Synchronic Constellation: Cross-Boundary Perspectives in Art’ and ‘MOT Collection: Past Light, Present Sight’.
Tokyo Shibuya Koen-dori Gallery
Friday opening hours extended to 8pm on November 6, 13, 20 and 27
The ‘Art Brut 2026 Touring Exhibition Sozo Training – Drawing out Imagination and Creation, Connecting, Being Here’ will be open during the extended Friday hours. Admission is free on all days.
