For some, a single afternoon at the beach just won’t cut it for the summertime. If you’re yearning for sand beneath your feet and sunshine on your skin, this new glamping site in Ibaraki could be worth adding to next season’s to-do list.

East Coast Fine Glamping Hitachinaka Ibaraki is roughly two hours by train from Tokyo Station, and it’s beside Ajigaura Beach. There are six dome tents with barbecue areas, plus a heated pool – the first for a glamping facility in the Kanto region. Each tent, which can accommodate up to four people, is fitted with a furnace and air conditioning unit to keep you cool on hot summer days or snug and warm on chilly winter nights.

With the beach mere steps away, spending the day swimming in the ocean or lounging on a sunbed might seem like the only natural way to pass the time, but don’t forget to visit the Hitachi Seaside Park during your stay. Just five minutes away by car, the expansive park is one of the most popular attractions in eastern Japan, known for its sprawling meadows that boast a colourful array of flora every season.

A soft opening is scheduled for April 29, just in time for the Golden Week holidays, with rates currently set at ¥30,000 per person. The package includes an outdoor teppanyaki-style dinner with skillets of ajillo, grilled meats and local produce, as well as a breakfast of freshly baked bread, soup, salad and cut fruits.

You can book your stay online through the site’s official website.
