This bakery from Tochigi prefecture offers a special ‘micampagne’ loaf that's exclusive to this Shimokitazawa outlet – and it comes complete with Mikan Shimokita's logo dusted on top with flour. The unique bread contains bits of dried domestic oranges as well as fragrant hints of clove. This bakery is constantly turning out new and exciting pastries made with oranges, so check back regularly for the latest creations.
Shimokitazawa is changing, and it's changing fast. The trendy neighbourhood has been evolving over the last few years, with new shopping and dining facilities like Bonus Track, Nansei Plus and Reload. If that wasn’t enough, the neighbourhood has just opened Mikan Shimokita, a brand new commercial complex built right under the Keio Line tracks.
While the name of the new development might have you thinking of oranges, ‘Mikan’ in this case is short for mikansei, which translates to ‘unfinished’ or ‘incomplete’. One of Shimokitazawa’s charms is its constant state of transition, continuously changing with a new, diverse mix of people and businesses.
Mikan Shimokita, found just outside the central exit of Shimokitazawa Station, is home to a wealth of exciting restaurants, cafés, bars and shops. These are just a few of the venues you should check out on your visit.
