From Edwardian villas in Leicester to period bungalows in Newcastle, these are the country’s most pleasant roads, lanes and avenues

What do you value on your street? Is there a great pub on the corner? A charming deli? Are you five minutes from a park, perfect for your hot-girl walks, or is there just a friendly neighbourhood cat always slinking around?
There’s so many things that make a great street, and defining which are the very best is no easy feat – but that hasn’t stopped the Telegraph from having a crack at it.
In partnership with estate agents Knight Frank, the Telegraph conducted a study that enlisted insight from local estate agents, looked at amenities and proximity to schools and transport, and compared house prices on certain streets with surrounding areas.
One of the bougiest entries on the list is Sandy Lane in Cobham, Surrey. The average neighbourhood price is a hefty £1.9 million, but what else can you expect from a ‘designer village’? It’s nestled on the very outskirts of greater London, and the commute to Waterloo takes only 38 minutes.
In fact, London is home to six of the 50 best streets, and you can read all about them here.
Cathedral Road in Portcanna is also included, and features tree-lined streets with stunning period villas. Cleveden Road in Glasgow is tucked away in West End, one of the world’s coolest neighbourhoods, and Runnymede in Ponteland is part of an exclusive estate, and has even been home to Alan Shearer.
