What is the story of Yaga?

Based on the 2019 stage play by showrunner and writer Kat Sandler, Yaga follows Rapp (Noah Reid), a private investigator who arrives in a small coastal town to investigate the disappearance of Henry Park (Hudson Williams), a young heir to a powerful local fishery. Rapp quickly finds himself at odds with Carson (Letterkenny alum Clark Backo), an apprehensive local detective; Katherine (Carrie-Anne Moss), a charismatic university professor with a taste for younger men; and a labyrinth of enigmatic suspects, secret lives, and ancient magic.

What is Yaga based on?

Both Sandler's TV series and stage play were inspired by the traditional Slavic folklore legend of Baba Yaga, a witchy, forest-dwelling female who traditionally manifests either as a frightening and ferocious villain who cooks and eats lost travelers, or a kindly old woman who helps the hero of the story. (Um, those are very different vibes, lady.)
