The annual ranking has crowned a new number one.

If your restaurant bucket list wasn't already intimidating enough, North America's 50 Best Restaurants has just unveiled its 2026 ranking—and it's packed with destination-worthy dining rooms, impossible reservations and enough tasting menus to keep frequent flyers busy for years.
Now in its second year, the ranking spans restaurants across the United States and Canada, with voters recognizing everything from ultra-refined fine dining temples to seafood counters, neighborhood gems and ambitious newcomers. This year's list includes restaurants from 20 different cities, with New York, Montreal, Toronto, Washington, D.C. and San Francisco all turning in particularly strong showings.
Claiming the top spot is Chicago's Smyth, which climbed from No. 4 last year to become North America's best restaurant for 2026. Led by husband-and-wife team John Shields and Karen Urie Shields, the restaurant earned praise for its highly seasonal tasting menu and close relationships with local growers and producers.
The rest of the top 10 reads like a culinary road trip through the continent. Calgary's Eight landed at No. 2, followed by Ontario's Restaurant Pearl Morissette at No. 3. New Orleans continued its dining renaissance with Dakar NOLA taking fourth place, while Montreal's Mon Lapin rounded out the top five. Washington, D.C.'s Albi, New York's Atomix and César, Toronto's Quetzal and Quebec City's Tanière3 also cracked the top 10.
New York once again proved itself a dining powerhouse, placing 13 restaurants on the list, including Atomix, César, Le Bernardin, Kabawa, Torrisi, Tatiana by Kwame Onwuachi, Semma and Gramercy Tavern. Los Angeles landed four restaurants, while San Francisco claimed five entries.
This year's ranking also welcomed 18 new entries, including Calgary's Eight, Atlanta's Avize, San Diego's Addison by William Bradley, Minneapolis newcomer Diane's Place and New York arrivals Kabawa, Tatiana by Kwame Onwuachi and Torrisi. Six cities appeared on the list for the first time: Atlanta, Calgary, Collingwood, Minneapolis, San Diego and Whistler.
