In the early weeks of lockdown, you may remember hearing about or participating in the Great American Takeout Challenge—a national call to action that encouraged folks to order takeout in an effort to support local restaurants. Today—Wednesday, March 24—marks the one-year anniversary of the event's launch. To celebrate, organizers are raising a boatload of money for restaurant relief funds with the help of some big-name sponsors.
Here's the cool part: If you order takeout tonight and share a photo of your meal on Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #TheGreatAmericanTakeout, those sponsors will donate $10 to the pot in your honor. No strings attached. In total, they're looking to raise up to $555,000 for Children of Restaurant Employees (CORE) and the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF).
It's a win-win situation in our book: You're supporting a local restaurant with a takeout or delivery order and in turn, companies like Coca-Cola and Pepsi are forking over cash to do even more good. Not that you needed an excuse to step away from the stove tonight.
