More than 62 million travelers passed through this airport

As you may have noticed, this past year was a very busy year for airports, especially over the holidays. Aviation analytics firm OAG has released its hefty 2024 report, and it reveals that the busiest airport in the world is right here in the U.S.
Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) retained its crown as the world’s busiest airport, welcoming an impressive 62.7 million travelers through its terminals. These numbers mark a 2% capacity increase compared to 2023, solidifying its dominance in global air travel.
ATL bested Dubai International Airport (DXB), which came in second with 60.2 million seats in 2024. Tokyo’s Haneda Airport (HND) rounded out the top three with 55.2 million passengers.
Back in the U.S., with Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) ranked as the fifth busiest airport worldwide and second in the U.S. Denver International Airport (DEN) followed closely, coming in sixth globally, while Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) landed at number 10. The five busiest airports in the U.S. are ATL, DFW, DEN, ORD and LAX.
Across the board, 2024 marked a record-breaking year for passenger volume in the U.S., with the TSA reporting all-time highs, especially during peak travel periods like Thanksgiving and the winter holidays.
Atlanta’s consistent top ranking underscores its importance as a global travel hub, connecting millions of travelers to destinations around the world and proving that the world of air travel continues to soar.
