Pancake Day in London
Pancake races and batter-based feasts come to London on Shrove Tuesday 2014
Get your frying pans at the ready folks, Tuesday February 17 2015 is Shrove Tuesday and this year's pancake action need not be confined to the kitchen. Pancake races across the city will see everyone from hipsters to MPs tossing their way towards the finish line.
This year, check out our failsafe recipe for the perfect pancake or simply track down the best places in London serving pancakes on Shrove Tuesday instead. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
What is Pancake Day all about?
Shrove Tuesday marks the last day before Lent, traditionally a period of abstinence, associated with clearing your cupboards of goods such as sugar, fats and eggs. It's commonly known as Pancake Day because it represents a good opportunity to use such ingredients ahead of the fasting period.
Pancake Day takes place 47 days before Easter Sunday. Because the date of Easter Sunday is dictated by the cycles of the moon, Pancake Day can occur anytime between February 3 and March 9.

The best thing for pancake day is PPB. PPB or Powdered Peanut Butter is made by Hale Naturals and is simply amazing for making pancakes. It fits in the category of Gluten Free and as a peanut butter has 70% less fat than traditional peanut butter. You can buy PPB from Amazon or HaleNaturals.com
I think it's awful to call Shrove Tuesday "Pancake Day" in a newspaper article. For goodness' sake, it is a religious holiday not a day for "It's a Knockout" type games. And this is coming from someone who isn't even religious.
And don't forget the new creperie which opened last summer in Hammersmith, La Petite Bretagne. The shop interior is very nice and they serve authentic galettes. It is the best creperie in London!
Me and my friends went to The Breakfast Club last year and had the most awesome pancakes. Great atmosphere as it was really busy and loads of yummy flavours. They have a challenge this year to eat 12 pancakes in 20 minutes (all money raised goes to charity). Their website is www.lovetbc.com
Don't forget the Leadenhall Market Pancake Race on Tuesday 21st Feb 2012 starting at 12.30pm. Free to enter a team & the 1st 100 spectators outside The Lamb Tavern, 10-12 Leadenhall Market, London. EC3V 1LR will receive a complimentary pancake with lemon & sugar.
Here are the best things to do, places eat and sights to see over the next seven days
