What is Pancake Day all about?

Shrove Tuesday marks the last day before Lent, traditionally a period of abstinence, associated with clearing your cupboards of goods such as sugar, fats and eggs. It's commonly known as Pancake Day because it represents a good opportunity to use such ingredients ahead of the fasting period.

Pancake Day takes place 47 days before Easter Sunday. Because the date of Easter Sunday is dictated by the cycles of the moon, Pancake Day can occur anytime between February 3 and March 9.

I think it's awful to call Shrove Tuesday "Pancake Day" in a newspaper article. For goodness' sake, it is a religious holiday not a day for "It's a Knockout" type games. And this is coming from someone who isn't even religious.

And don't forget the new creperie which opened last summer in Hammersmith, La Petite Bretagne. The shop interior is very nice and they serve authentic galettes. It is the best creperie in London!

Me and my friends went to The Breakfast Club last year and had the most awesome pancakes. Great atmosphere as it was really busy and loads of yummy flavours. They have a challenge this year to eat 12 pancakes in 20 minutes (all money raised goes to charity). Their website is
