Forty minutes west of Lisbon, on the opposite side of Portugal's southern coast, the town of Cascais has drastically evolved from small fishing port, to a grand, sunny getaway. Few things go better with this coast’s summer-perfect microclimate than waking up to the smell of the sea, having breakfast in a bright, private courtyard and swimming without strangers.

Whether you are planning a family escape or a weekend retreat with friends, Cascais’s Airbnbs are (mostly) affordable alternatives to the typical resort hotels. From restored historic properties in the town centre to contemporary homes tucked away near Guincho, we found the best holiday homes in this little Portugese paradise. And yes, most of them come with a private pool.
